RICHARD DAWKINS was baffled after arguing that people who call themselves Christians are often lying. At one point the pro-atheism Dawkins apparently called for divine intervention as he stammered to remember the title of Charles Darwin's book on evolution.

On a BBC Radio program, Dawkins was debating a survey with the Rev Giles Fraser, the former canon of St Paul's Cathedral who quit last year. Dawkins concluded that 64 percent of people who said they were Christians were not able to identify Matthew as the first book of the New Testament.

Later in the debate, Fraser asked him if he could tell him the complete title of On the Origin of Species, the book by Charles Darwin which serves as the foundation to many evolutionary beliefs.

Dawkins stated enthusiastically responded: "Yes I could."

"Go on then," said Fraser.

Dawkins replied: "On the Origin of Species, er, with... oh God... On the Origin of Species, um... There is a subtitle... er, um, with respect to the preservation of favored races in the struggle for life."

The correct answer is On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life.
